Thank Crunchie it’s Friday indeed! And today our mission is to write a poem in which the words or meaning of a familiar phrase get up-ended. I decided to take a light-hearted approach to this theme and enjoyed messing up a few of my favourite sayings all in the name of poetry!
So they Say
Too many campers spoil the site
It takes three to know two they say
Something about this doesn’t look right?
But that’s what I’ve heard anyway!
A polka dot skirt cannot change its spots
And mustard is thicker than honey
Some say that I’m daft as a comb, but I’m not
And I don’t find this statement too funny!
You can’t burn the bonfire at both ends
The early eel catches the fly
Confusing the messages these sayings send
And this is no verb of a lie!
And It ain’t all over ’til my kettle sings
That’s straight from the elephant’s trunk
Once in a red moon they say such wise things
As for I, I’m as dry as a skunk!

Thanks Claire. How do I do that? Haven’t added anything but have kept up with the poem a day and have used the prompt every day…

I check the prompt so quickly that I never knew you could do that! Thanks Claire! Shame as there are some of my previous days’ poems that I would have loved to have shared but too late now! Loving the challenge though! 🙂

Thanks Claire – spinning too many plates I think! (Now that could have been another saying to mess up for for my poem!)
