Earlier on this week I was not feeling on top form and was in two minds whether to cancel some of my calls that day. Instead though I chose to show up as I was and this choice was inspired by a wise friend whose words appear in the following poem.
The other day I found myself apologising for not being my usual self
To which my wise friend replied: “Every version of you is great.”
For there are no usual selves.
Every minute of every day we are becoming.
Our energy, when left to its own devices, has absolutely no need or desire to perform in a pre-programmed way in order to meet other people’s expectations.
It simply wants our permission. And that’s it.
We are not here to please.
Besides, how ridiculous to assume that other people (who the hell are these people anyway?) should need us to patronise them with such a display?
We are so many selves. And the moment that we allow these ever evolving expressions of life force to simply be as they are,
the easier life becomes.
And, “other people” breathe a huge sigh of relief.
