Every year for the past five years Andy and I hike to the little tree in an open valley where we buried some of my Dad’s ashes. It helps to have somewhere to go to over here to visit Dad and this year I felt very calm and held. Each year the weather is different and there are new things on the route, reminding us that life is in constant change and that there are always things to admire. Today’s poem was inspired to this year’s Mecca to Dad’s valley.
New Year Peace
Within the valley I am held
by warmth and love eternal
Protected by the deepest well
of guiding light paternal
The cherry tree is bare of leaves
but even in deep winter
I feel the calmness your soul breathes
Devotion; you can’t tint her
I’m here my darling, everyday
All you must do is feel it
The open-hearted find their way
Through facing in, we heal it
Today there’s rain and snow as well
Sweet snowflakes, peace internal
Within the valley I am held
by warmth and love eternal
