A few months before we lost my Dad I still had so many questions to ask him. In fact I asked him to send me lists of his all time favourite films, songs etc and found out that he loved the song “Only Love” by Nana Mouskouri which made absolutely sense given how huge heart. We used to sing together in a local musical theatre company so music was a big connecting force for us and on hearing this song whilst out jogging recently my heart turned to mush!
Only Love
You shared with me the songs you loved
three months before your passing
The questions asked were n’er enough, so much still for the asking
We’d always found that words and sounds would bond us so innately
I knew to keep your soul around, those tunes would help me greatly
Five years have gone and still that song can move my heart so deeply
For Only Love through you grows on – you lived those notes completely
Our thinking states can complicate but you knew what was needed
Your spirit’s music elevates, my symphony – you freed it
The melodies we live inside are there for the unmasking
and though sometimes it’s bittersweet, in songs of Love I’m basking
