She Sells Seashells

When we arrived at Poetto a few months ago we were startled to see how far the recent storms had pushed the seawater on to the promenade. Indeed many locals were snapping away keen to share this rare occurrence on Instagram. An array of seashells were washed in with the surging tide, inspiring me to write these light-hearted lines and to take the somewhat ridiculous featured selfie!

Shelley

They said she had shells in her eyes

They said there was sand in her song

Born of the ocean’s surprise

Salt kept her bobbing along

Her body surged forth like the ocean

Her sea beds of depth could be felt

She rose with the tide’s pulling motion

Her treasure-chest heart made you melt

Anchored by maritime skies

At one with the coral and surf

They said she had shells in her eyes

She moved like the waves straight from birth
