Nighttime Visitors

I cannot say that I am plagued by the wild dalliances of my twenties and yet from time to time my rogue romancers do appear from nowhere in my dreams/nightmares. Perhaps the brain needs to purge its memories repeatedly before they are officially exorcised? Who knows? In any case, I had fun writing about it!

Nighttime Slumber Subterfuge

Why do you still come back to me

In late night story reels?

For you, my long gone history

do not hold much appeal

Though still I lay, our scenes replay

Oh under-pillow creeper

The tiger that led me astray

Still seeks to lure the sleeper

In duvets huge, I take refuge

You creep back unrelenting

The nighttime slumber subterfuge

Shows no sign of repenting

  1. Oh my – this one strikes a chord – I like the perspective that it takes several confrontations to get certain things “completely gone”! (Though, in truth, those things came in the first place as challenges to grow us to where we are now … I wish many of mine good riddance!)

  2. Oh, that a tiger would lead me astray! I love how this conveys your point and at the same time adheres to a challenging rhyme scheme, abab cdcd etc with a few in-line rhymes thrown in for good measure. Nice job, Sam! πŸ™‚
