And all that Jazz

My Crafty Poet Book of poetry prompts has really inspired me to experiment with new styles and approaches. One suggestion was to write a list of twelve words that you liked the of and to weave them into the first draft of a new poem. I had fun playing around with this in the coffee shop one afternoon and wrote the following piece.

The Saxophonist

He grins at his gaggle of loose-limbed idolisers

Some wholesome, others overtly venomous,

one banana-split blonde, dilly-dallying towards the dimly-lit stage.

The saxophonist’s nonchalance antagonistic to the testosterone-bulldogs bulging in the hall.

Sautéed senses spill into the aroused arena

Cantankerous comments and puppy-dog yelps magnify

as they await the announcement

Clammy condensation gathering on palms and windows

Nearly time.
