Ghost Train

Trains have an atmosphere all of their own and the one that we took to start our trek through Baden Würtemberg was no exception. I could imagine all sorts of salubrious film plot scenarios in the dodgy wagon we found ourselves in and sought to capture the tone in the lines below.

Dirty Train Descent

Empty carriage feeling

Upon the window, dust

I gaze up to the ceiling

We’re wheeling through the rust

The shadows moving slowly

Across the sticky floor

If cleanliness is holy

You’re filthy to the core

Old wrappers and black smudges

The odd crushed cigarette

This wagon carries grudges

Some drunken feuds, I bet

The villages flash quickly

Before my clouded eyes

My throat is dry and ticklely

Now Istein has arrived

Relief to see the grape vines

Boy how that old train ponged

The day bursts forth with sunshine

The dirty train chugs on
