April Awakening

Friday’s challenge is to write a poem that stretches our comfort zone with line breaks. That could be a poem with very long lines, or very short lines. Or a poem that blends the two. might break to emphasize (or de-emphasize) sounds or rhymes, or to create a moment of hesitation in the middle of a thought. Here is my poetic offering :

April Friday

It wasn’t by chance that the sky beamed pink like Angel Delight

on that April Friday at eight am

They knew she was ready and bolstered her with hugs and help as she packed the last ankle sock

on that April Friday at eight am

anticipation, amazement, adventure and adventure rippling through her solar plexus

on that April Friday at eight am

Where is my passport/hairbrush/iPhone/train ticket/map? questioned her hurried head

on that April Friday at eight am

He had gone and they had coped and it hurt like hell still but she was ready

on that April Friday at eight am

Tying her laces she sent a prayer of trust to the universe,

looked up at the Angel Delight sky and started the walk of a lifetime

on that April Friday at eight am.
