Cold Spell

It was ccccccccold walking into work yesterday! Only minus three in reality but January was so mild this year that the recent cold snap has been a shock to the system. Sometimes that cold feeling really seems to gets into the bones and I couldn’t wait to get to school and have a peppermint tea before the lessons kicked off.

Late Winter

My finger tips are hard to feel
Outside it’s minus three
I chug forth like a rusty wheel
And cold’s all I can see
The river shivers back at me
I cannot help but sniff
The leaves like frosted pot pourri
The ground austere and stiff
My breath collects like scudding clouds
That merge with chimney smoke
A hint of pink between the crowd
of pine green winter cloaks
The starkness of the violin
Which pierces through my ears
Makes me wish that Spring would begin
Now that late winter rears
