Show your feathers!

pp

During one of my recent Co-Active coaching training sessions, the image of the peacock arose as a symbol of not being afraid to take pride in what you do and who you are. The peacock was the inspiration behind the name for my YouTube channel and poetry blog and I feel it only right to devote today’s blog to this beautiful and unique bird. The link to the video I made of this poem is also below.

The Peacock

Shiny blue and emerald green

A magnet to the crowd

He stands majestically and preens

His aura tall and proud

He takes some slow and gliding steps

Evoking and intriguing

No one knows what to expect

Imagination reeling

And once the crowd are all on board

He revels in the fun

Unveiling his bejewelled fan

Of feathers, one by one

He owns his space of finery

And knows just how to please

Showing off his plumage

He just can’t resist the tease

A shower of inquiring eyes

Such vivid royal blue

Embellished with their halos

Of a sumptuous golden hue

Inspiring the onlookers

Admiring the show

A final flutter for the road

A bow, and then he goes

  1. Hi Sam, it’s me again 🙂 I love this post! The colours of the picture are great, but I’m a big fan of your poetry! So beautiful. The ending is brilliant as well. Look forward to seeing more of it, Neelie

    1. Thanks Laura. Strangely (or perhaps not) I was running my normal route near work a few weeks ago and out of nowhere in to the path walked a peacock! I took it as a real sign to keep writing! Have a good day, Sam 🙂
